Playbill’s own Seth Rudetsky’s first YA novel “My Awesome/Awful Popularity Plan” will be released by Random House this week, with Rudetsky and some starry friends – including Broadway favorites Kerry Butler (Catch Me If You Can), Tony nominee Rory O’Malley (Book of Mormon) and Matt Cavenaugh (West Side Story) – assembling for a reading in NYC. Okay guys, I love Nick Jonas and everything but I am WAY more excited to see Micheal Urie.

Taylor Swift reportedly offered role of Eponine in “Les Mis” film
Taylor Swift has been offered the role of Eponine in the big-screen version of musical “Les Miserables” beating out Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson and Evan Rachel Wood, according to reports.
Universal reportedly offered Swift the role, after tough competition from Broadway veteran Michele, Tony winner Johansson and film veteran Wood, reports BroadwayWorld.com.
The studio also offered “Mamma Mia!” film star Amanda Seyfried the role of Cosette, according to the site.
The rest of the cast is also shaping up to be full of stars: Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, Sasha Baron Cohen as Thenardier, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Aaron Tveit as Enjolras, Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier.
All cast members will be singing live for the Tom Hooper-directed film. Filming is to start in March and the release date is tentatively set for Dec. 7, 2012, according to Broadway World.
Field Trip!
Today I went on the drama field trip. I took class in make-up, prop design, and scenic painting. Micheal Potts (Yes, the one who plays Mafala in The Book Of Mormon) came to talk to us about life in theater. He was so humble and cool about everything. Even sang part of Hasa Diga Ebowai. I wish someone else in my group new Mormon so I could share in this feeling of star-struckness.
See that French guy with the scars? He was imprisoned for 20 years for stealing a loaf of bread. That quiet boy who plays pinball? He witnessed a murder at age 4. That neurotic German kid with the poofy hair? He’s suicidal because he’s failing out of high school. That mother you called crazy? Her baby son died 17 years ago. I bet 95% of you won’t put this as your status if you don’t go to an angsty musical at least once this year.
