Candice Bergen, Chad Kimball, Alice Ripley, Tony Yazbeck, Kerry Butler, Tituss Burgess and more gather for Back to the Drawing Board. The show, organized by director David Alpert, will feature the stars singing songs from animated films. Alpert began these benefit performances as a tribute to his late sister, Gilana Shira Alpert, who passed in 2007. Proceeds benefit organizations dedicated to causes close to Gilana’s heart including equality advocacy, sex education, theatre studies and Holocaust awareness. A special family-friendly matinee of the fairytale-based musical Into the Woods – that is, the first act, in which they all live happily ever after – will be presented at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Starring Donna Murphy as the garden-obsessed Witch; Denis O’Hare and Amy Adams as the child-seeking Baker and the Baker’s Wife; Jessie Mueller as a clumsy Cinderella; and Gideon Glick as Jack (before he eventually finds his beanstalk). In this Shakespeare in the Park version, the role of the narrator has been transformed into a young boy (Jack Broderick) who has run away from home and finds his way into the woods. Peter and the Starcatcher, the imaginative prequel to “Peter Pan,” flies into Broadway after a successful run at New York Theatre Workshop. The play with music, adapted from the popular Young Adult novel, follows the story of how a lost Boy and Black Stache would evolve into Peter Pan and Captain Hook. Starring original NYTW stars Adam Chanler-Berat as Boy, “Smash” star Christian Borle as Black Stache and Celia Keenan-Bolger as Molly.
